Fish Go Deep announce forthcoming new album, ‘What I Mean By Beautiful’

Two years on from their introspective long player This Bit of Earth, Fish Go Deep, aka Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson, have unveiled details of their fourth album, entitled What I Mean By Beautiful.

Set to be released on vinyl and digital on 24 November, on their own Go Deep Recordings, the 11-track album marks something of a return to Fish Go Deep’s house music roots, with a four-to-the-floor beat underpinning many of the tracks, especially on You Came Into My Life and All In Everything.

There’s also plenty of downtempo moments, such as on the atmospheric South Gate Step (probably our favourite from the album) and the dubby Low Tide Dub.

The album closes with Be Brave, a collaboration with author Lisa McInerney and actor Hillary Rose.

As a press release for the album puts it, ‘What I Mean By Beautiful touches on the previous collection’s themes of upheaval and dislocation, digging through the lost and found of modern life and always looking for light in dark places.’

The striking album cover, meanwhile, was put together by artist John McMonagle. Listen to the album’s title track below.
