Number 5 Part in an ongoing series of rave films. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 and Part 4. The list isn’t in order of our favourites, we just think that each one is worth a view for what is said about our scene.
Kevin and Perry Go Large – Don’t knock it till you’ve seen it. Filmed at the height of Superstar DJ mania, and if you can block out the toilet humour, it was obviously made by someone who knew Ibiza well. Harry Enfield and kathy Burke star as Kevin and Perry.
Loads of famous parts of the island appear, and the club scenes at Amnesia look pretty realistic. Rhys Ifan appears as DJ Eyeball Paul, and plays the part well. A couple of years after this film came out the whole concept of people worshipping a superstar DJ seemed old fashioned. By the early 2000’s it even seemed that the super club years had passed. And they had, but by the end of the 2000’s they were replaced by fan worship of DJ’s like Tiesto, David Guetta, Diplo etc and suddenly Kevin and Perry seems relevant again. The message of the film about the cynicism of some in the scene is well handled, and certainly now appears as a warning for he clubbing recession that was just around the corner.
The rumour is that during the making of the film the crew had problems recruiting enough dancers for the club scenes as they were filmed during the day. Not that they had any choice as obviously the clubs would be busy at night, but even paying people to turn up to something in Ibiza during the day won’t guarantee that they actually do…
Kevin and Perry are two 15-year-old boys whose desperation to lose their virginity is so great that it inspires a sort of awe. In the rare moments when they’re not thinking about girls, Kevin dreams of being a singer, and Perry has ambitions toward becoming a dance music DJ. When Kevin and Perry manage to stop a bank robbery, they’re given a sizable cash reward, and they decide to go on a holiday in Ibiza, which is supposedly populated with thousands of beautiful women willing to sleep with anyone. However, after the boys pack plenty of sunscreen and condoms, Kevin’s parents announce that they’re tagging along. Undeterred, Kevin and Perry make the trip and meet superstar DJ Eyeball Paul , who may or may not listen to their demo tape. The boys also encounter Gemma and Candice, two scruffy teenage girls who are nearly as eager as Kevin and Perry to get horizontal. Written by Anonymous
A movie spin-off from Harry Enfield’s TV series, featuring the popular character of Kevin the Teenager. When stubborn, spotty Kevin and his equally hopeless best friend Perry go on holiday to the party island Ibiza, they see it as their big chance to become superstar club DJs and, more importantly, to lose their virginities. But they aren’t prepared for the interference of top DJ Eyeball Paul, not to mention the embarrassment factor of Kevin’s long-suffering parents. Written by Phythian
